What is another name for childhood dementia?

The name ‘childhood dementia’ is an umbrella term applied to over 100 genetic conditions. You may sometimes see the term ‘childhood Alzheimer’s’ used interchangeably to describe childhood dementia.

While ‘Alzheimer’s’ and ‘dementia’ are often colloquially used interchangeably, many people don’t know that Alzheimer’s disease is actually a specific disease and the most common cause of dementia in adults. In children, dementia is caused by 100+ fatal genetic disorders. Some of the better-known childhood dementia conditions include Sanfilippo syndrome, Rett syndrome, Niemann-Pick disease type A and C, and Batten disease.
