Professor Peter Schofield appointed Board member

December 2024: Childhood Dementia Initiative is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Peter Schofield AO FAHMS PhD DSc to its Board of Directors. Professor Schofield, who has been serving as a valued member of the organisation's Scientific and Medical Advisory Committee, brings decades of distinguished leadership in neuroscience and medical research to this role.

Professor Schofield’s extensive experience includes serving as CEO of Neuroscience Research Australia (2004-2022), one of Australia’s leading centres of neuroscience research, President of the Australasian Neuroscience Society (2020-2022) and Interim Director of the NHMRC National Institute for Dementia Research (2016-2017). A Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences, he has authored over 500 research papers and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for his contributions to neuroscience and to professional institutions.

Peter is committed to accelerating transformative progress for children with dementia and brings with him experience as a Founding Director of both for-purpose and start-up organisations including Research Australia and the Australian Dementia Network Ltd.
