LEARN MORE ABOUT CHILDHOOD DEMENTIA
Why it's time to FACE it
1 in every 2,900 babies is born with a condition that causes childhood dementia.
It's caused by over 100 rare genetic conditions. Together, they have a big impact.
There's not enough research
Most people haven't heard of childhood dementia and it hasn't attracted enough attention or research to find cures.
What is childhood dementia?
Childhood dementia makes it harder and harder for affected kids to remember things, learn and move.
It’s caused by genes that children are born with. These genes don't work the way they need them to.
Genes carry information from our parents like what colour hair we’ll have. Sometimes genes have problems with their code and cause health problems, like childhood dementia. There are over 100 different genetic disorders that cause childhood dementia.
Symptoms
You may be familiar with some of the symptoms of adult dementia. Kids also suffer from these symptoms like confusion, loss of memory, loss of speech and more. Each child’s experience with dementia is different. Some will have dementia symptoms that start when they are babies and get worse quickly, while others may have symptoms that take longer to progress.
With awareness and more research, we can find cures and help children with dementia.
